The First Search Engine's Birthday

The prototype for the first search engine is 20 years old today.

Unfortunately, not many people in the world will be celebrating it, because the story of the first search engine is an untold one.

The first search engine was designed, and a prototype built, in 1985 in a building called 'the sandcastle' in Liverpool Merseyside.

However, the first search engine is normally described as having been developed by a student at McGill University in 1990.
